I Have Two Faces pg. 2

"Yeah Well I am no longer unconscious so take these damn things off."
"Ok, ma'am we will remove them but you must remain calm or they will have to go back on." The nurse explained.
"Ok ok I am calm."
The nurse helped the doctor remove them. Then the woman put her hands up to her face. "Gauze, why is there so much gauze? The only place that isn't covered in gauze are my eyes, nostrils and lips. How bad was I hit?"She cried.
"Ma'am" the doctor started to say, however, he was once again interrupted.
"Please stop calling me ma'am. Don't you have my name in your records?" she asked.
"I'm sorry you had nothing on you to show us who you are." the doctor explained. "I also need to tell you that the accident left your face pretty much bone and tissue. I had to do some plastic surgery. In fact, there will have to be a few more done as well."
"Ok so what you are telling me is that some trucker ran me over so badly he rearranged my face? And I can't remember who I am or anything about myself? That makes me a Jane Doe, a faceless Jane Doe. Right? Was I wearing a wedding ring? There must be people looking for me, right?" She started to cry.
"Yes all of this makes you a Jane Doe. No there was no wedding ring, no purse, nothing in your pockets. I'm sorry. But I am sure there are people looking for you." The doctor told her trying to make her feel a little better. However, the fact is, nobody called and asked about her. He continued to speak "Once you have healed from all of the surgeries we will post your picture on the local news." He finished.
I thought you said the accident messed up my face. Obviously you couldn't put it back to its "normal" state since you don't know what I "normally" looked like. How are people supposed to recognize me? I can't do this." she said as the tears kept rolling down her cheeks.
"Jane, all we can do is try to get you safely back to your family. And hopefully in time you will start to remember things."
